Fabric Art- School project turned summer fun project

Today I wanted to share a fun school project that I did for my color theory class. This project was my favorite one that we did because I love working with textiles in different ways. A project like this would also make a great summer project to do with your kiddos( or if you just wanted to make one). You can easily use any fabric you have around the house or pick out special pieces to use. The concept of this project( if I am remembering it correctly was to show depth within the portrait through nature, in my case mountains and tress). Admittedly I channeled a bit of Bob Ross( I love watching his show still) for this, I wanted trees and mountains. A friend of mine did a cityscape, the possibilities are endless. An underwater seascape would also be a fun way to use fabric, different color schemes and depth.

I gathered up some materials that I had lying around to show you examples. Anything you have would work great!

I almost forgot, I also used wallpaper in this project. If you don’t have wallpaper or access to samples, scrapbooking paper that can be purchased at a craft store will also work. The idea for me was to find colors and patterns that complimented each other without over powering. All the technical terms aside( you aren’t being graded I promise) you can do this project in the same way you would paint or any other kind of art medium, let the idea come to life using slightly unconventional materials.
